Affiliate marketing is described as a technique whereby a company signs up other companies or individuals, known as affiliates, to sell its products for a commission. In electronic commerce, an affiliate is a webmaster who places an advertiser’s ad on his website and charges referral fees or commissions based on performance that is measured in terms of sales, registrations, clicks etc.
The ability of an individual to find affiliates capable of reaching the untapped markets is referred to as his affiliate marketing skills. In today’s technology driven world, it is an important tool to remain competitive in the market.
Why is affiliate marketing important
Affiliate marketing is gaining popularity fast because of the following reasons:
- Improves visibility. Affiliate marketing is extremely easy to start and a great way to improve the visibility of your brand. It enables companies to reach out to various customer bases all across the world, thus, bringing in huge volumes of web traffic. The relationship it helps in building with high-volume affiliates is another reason for the improved visibility.
- Lower costs. Another reason for the growing popularity of affiliate marketing is the fact that it is all performance based.
