Careers at WayUp
Mission
WayUp matches college students looking for employment with companies offering part time work and internships.
Product Segments
Students fill out a profile including their previous employment, academic achievements, along with additional information such as hobbies or recreational activities. Once an employer sets up their company profile they can post employment or internship opportunities. The qualifications they are seeking can be specific or vague but only students that meet those qualifications will be able to view the listing.
When a job matching their criteria is added, students are sent a notification. With just one click applicants can submit their profile to apply for a job. Businesses can also search through the student database and invite specific individuals to apply. If a student and employer are matched based on their eligibility then employers receive the applicant's full contact information. They can contact the student to set up an interview or hire them on the spot.
History
Launched in 2014, WayUp connects college students seeking employment during or after college with employers seeking a specific qualifications profile. After working as a Product Marketing Manager for Google, Liz Wessel left her job to start the job search platform along with JJ Fliegelman, former Business Analyst and Developer. Originally named Campus Job, the company relaunched as WayUp in 2015 to create a more distinct brand.
WayUp identifies themselves as the leading digital solution for finding jobs and internships. Their services are completely free for students who create a profile. Companies can create listings for free, but are charged a fee per applicant they hire. Searching can be done from their website or through their app available for iOS devices. They have offered positions from over 10,000 companies and have helped over half a million students or recent graduates from 4,100 different US college campuses find the perfect match for employment.
WayUp is based in New York, NY with a team of over 40 staff members along with 800 campus representatives throughout the country. In 2015, the company raised $7.8 million in funding led by General Catalyst. They are also funded by BoxGroup, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Index Ventures, SV Angel, Slow Ventures, and Y Combinator.
