Careers at Clover Health
Mission
Clover Health utilises technology and data analytics to provide health insurance coverage to elderly consumers that accurately and effectively covers their individual medical needs.
History
Clover Health was founded in 2012 by Kris Gale (“Gale”) and Vivek Garipalli (“Garipalli”). The concept behind the Company was originally developed by Garipalli, who had worked within the healthcare industry for a number of years. He decided to create a company under the Medicare Advantage plan with the idea he could drive down costs by improving clinical outcomes, focusing in particular on the care and management of several chronic diseases that often require expensive procedures and treatment.
Garipalli began building an insurance business around people from healthcare industry who wanted to collaborate in providing customers the best possible clinical care. He realised, however, that in order to accurately analyse and utilize patient data, he would need to incorporate technology and data science systems into his service offerings. He subsequently brought Gale, then Vice President to Engineering at Yammer, on board to handle the technology and data side of the business.
Clover Health completed its Series A round of funding in 2015, raising $100 million from investors such as Athyrium Capital Management and First Round. The Company completed its Series B round of funding later that same year, with its Series C round completed in May 2016. To date, Clover Health has raised around $295 million in funding, from investors including Nexus Venture Partners, Greenoaks Capital, Arena Ventures, and Sequoia Capital.
Clover Health currently serves a range of customers across counties in New Jersey and Texas, with plans to expand its operations further. The Company is among the most followed businesses in the US healthcare market, which has seen a number of start-ups appear in recent years. The Company has not disclosed its valuation.
